I am a commitment to building resource and capacity to narrow the distance between action and values. I see and approach my work as an avenue to be constantly working toward that commitment. As a big attachment theory nerd, someone who loves somatics, and feels really passionately about making sure people feel seen, I am so grateful to be crossing paths with anyone in this EMDR space.
As an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Consultant in Training, I work with adults navigating trauma, gender and sexuality, life transitions, and living life more fully rather than trapped in previous impactful experiences. I have a lot of experience working with queer and trans folks, and deeply believe collective liberation and anti-oppressive frameworks would create so many less Answers for all of us. I approach therapy and as avenue to shift how those oppressive systems, structures, beliefs, and experiences keep us from the belonging and connection we are wired for. I see EMDR (and especially SAFE) as a really powerful and beautiful container to move us from where we are stuck to where we want, need, and ultimately are meant to be.
Many of the people I work with know that they’re getting caught up in different thought patterns and ways of being that aren’t really working anymore, however, they aren’t completely clear on how to move forward or how to see themself as the more expansive person they really are. In our work together, I see my role as validating what they’re experiencing, reflecting back the insights and wisdom they hold, assisting in holding the container that connects of all the brilliance a client’s mind and body has and already knows what to do with (just like the Adaptive Information Processing Model tells us!), and offering a music reference, analogy, or some humor to make it more approachable and directly relatable.
I integrate EMDR with Parts Work, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness, Somatics, DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), puns, bad jokes, fierce compassion, and radical mental health frameworks. I believe deeply in approaching therapy as a genuine collaboration and with the deep reverence for the experience any of the people I work with carry and that I am privileged enough to be part of journeying through.
